On our first day with Wanda we did an interesting exercise in the class. We posted descriptions of each of the philosophical perspectives of education from Ornstein's article on the walls. Then we were asked to stand next to the perspective that best described our view of education. It was interesting to see who stood where. I mostly stood by Progressivism. I couldn't commit to Reconstructionism because I don't always believe it's my job to tell someone what they should believe as if my perspective is the truth. Rather I see myself as a facilitator for the student to find their truth.I do also see merit in studying the classics so the other approaches had a little appeal too. Anyhow I don't think it is static

What's this education business? Curriculum? Pedagogy?
As someone who has not trained as a teacher, this whole education business can be a bit intimidating. It took me a while (and I'm not going to lie - a google search) to figure out what curriculum and pedagogy are. I keep going back to these notes...
CUBE Model of Education Program Development
This is Wanda's CUBE Model of Educational Development. Sometimes I find it easier to understand complex things with visual aids so I tried to put it into a graphic. Once I understood it, the model has been incredibly helpful.
Our assignment was to review our proposed education program using the CUBE model.
It has been helpful to review what I have done so far with the self-guided Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Program peer group for staff.
Then to spend time thinking about how I might use it with Psychiatric Nursing Students....I started by thinking about what their needs and sources of stress.
Then how my education program might meet their needs.
